Need help with old onkyo receiver

I'm trying to fix my dads old onkyo receiver. It hasn't been working for a few years now and it's be great if I could get it working again. One of the AC outlets in the back malfunctioned some how. It was all black and broken. I removed it but the ground wire and two wires entering the outlet are now not connected to anything. What should I do with them? Can I not replace that outlet and just tie off those wires? Here are some pictures of the receiver. The receiver turns on but will not put any output to the speakers.

Edit: pictures won't upload from my phone. I will upload as soon as I can.

It's hard to say just what you're getting into there, especially without the picture. That said, if you've removed the faulty power receptacle on back, you can just insulate the wires somehow (each one, individually, of course) and they should be fine for now. Personally, if I didn't intend to put the receptacle back, I'd just clip the wires off from wherever they originate (usually there's more than one power outlet and they're just jumpered together).

There's really no telling, at this point, why you're not getting any output. I suppose the first step would be to take the cover off and see if you see anything obviously burned or otherwise messed-up. Where you go from there would depend completely on how comfortable you are working with electronics. If you're comfortable, and you've got a meter, there are some basic troubleshooting steps you can take, like checking voltages. What's the model of the Onkyo you're working on?
