I have a Sony PS-X50 with the original J Shaped tone arm and the original Head Shell as well. I had bought it used - I use a Stanton 680e.V3 cartridge. It was functioning pretty well but recently I have been having cueing issues:
The tone arm platform does not raise above the level of the record even when the cueing lever is in "UP" position. Even if I loosen the lifter plate screw and adjust the tone arm platform to a level above the record, as soon as I lower the tone arm manually on to the platform it slowly goes down to the level of the record even if the cueing lever is in up position. Also the tone arm platform does not go all the way down but just goes down to the level of what it would be relative to the tone arm height.
When I operate the cueing lever, it does move the tone arm platform up and down (I mention this to suggest that the mechanical linkages seem to be working properly). However, it doesn't go up enough to actually make contact with the tone arm and lift the tone arm off the record when I cue up.
I was hoping to get some guidance on how to go about rectifying this problem and if anyone of you had a similar problem and how did you fix it? I am very much a novice when it comes to technical stuff. Infact, I have never opened up a turntable ever in my life, but I am willing to start now if it is a easy to moderate-level fix. I absolutely love my Sony and this is the first time I have had issues with it.
