Hello all.
I have a JVC turntable (QL-F61) with an AT 1100E cartridge. I recently replaced the stylus and when listening to records today noticed that I was getting static on one channel. I'm going to write what I've done to try to figure this out and fix the problem, but I'm struggling to word it clearly, so I hope it all makes sense.
I switched the speaker connections and the static moved with it. I switched RCA plugs (red and white) so that the red went with the white and the white with the red and the static switched channels too.
I used needle nose pliers to try to tighten up the green connection (hot connection for the left channel I think) on the tone arm where it connects to the cartridge, and I did the same with the blue connection (ground for the left channel I think). When I've done this it seems to fix the problem but over the course of a few minutes (a song and a half or so) the static comes back and progressively gets worse. This makes me think there is a loosening of the connection as the record plays, but I'm unsure. I'm also not sure if it's an issue with the cartridge, the tone arm/turn table itself, or just the wires or something.
I live in Minneapolis and used to go to the needle doctor's physical location for issues like this, but now that the shop has closed (RIP Jerry), I'm looking for any advice or support someone here can provide.
