Need Insight on a BIC 980

I'm looking for a new turntable and saw a BIC 980 for sale on Craiglist for $50. There is no picture but he is going to send me one once he is off work. I was just wondering if this is a good price and if anyone had any experience with one. Thank you!

That's great price for a fine turntable if it works. I've never worked on one but I heard they are not easy to fix if they break.

Awesome, the guy said he used it the other day but needed to sell it for to pay some bills so it works. Thanks for the reply!

They're not hard to fix really, and unlike most old turntables you can get practically anything to fix them. Parts galore. Their main problem with age is their lubricants gum up. When it's bad the platter sticks solid, when it's annoying the auto set drops the tonearm for 7" discs. If you use it manually , then it's fine.

$50 isn't bad....assuming that the base and dust cover are intact, and the motor works. Parts are available and YouTube has a number of videos on how to disassemble and refurbish the BIC 9xx series....the mechanicals are all similar...Vinyl engine also has the owner's manuals and technical manuals for them.....a little patience and work, and these TTs rock! I love my 980....

I got the picture and from the looks it is in pretty good condition just needs a little touch up and the dust cover is there and not scratched. So overall I think it should be a good deal.
