Need MC 250 Serial # help

Picked up a nice clean unit today. Got it home, and noticed that where I would think the serial number should be on the rear of the unit, there is text that says Serial Number, but....there is no number....Is there anywhere else on the unit I should be looking? Inside somewhere? Thanks, please forgive me I'm a newbie to Mac gear.

That is where it should be. It isn't unusual for cleaning of the chassis to eradicate the serial number. The chassis lettering was silk-screened and is a little tougher. The serial number was printed on.

The serial # on my 250 was scratched in for some reason. Don't know if it provides any info on date?

That is not the serial number format for an MC250. It looks like a previous owners initials and birth year.

Hello !

Serial numbers on MC250 MCINTOSH are 2 numbers + 1 letter + 2 numbers . I have seen service manuals with serial numbers

- starting 10L01 to 21L97
- 21L98 to 23L47
- 23L48 and above

As Larry said your " numbers " are not serial numbers at all....

OK, so given that the "real" number on the back of mine is gone, is there any other way to approximate year of manufacture, etc? Would calling Mcintosh be of any help? Do they even take calls about this sort of thing? Thanks.

no , I don' think they will help you regarding this in any way ...

A long long time ago , when you called the factory and give the numbers graved on the side of the chassis (only numbers) they were able to tell you anything you needed to know ...Today it is not the same ... very old "stuff" ....
There is another hope ....Very often inside the unit ..stamped is the serial number in case of the external one erased is ...
