Need new speakers

I'm new to this and trying to piece together a decent system. So far I've only been able to come up with an old Technics receiver and the Accurian Radio Shack Amp. For speakers I've got the Best Buy Insignia's and a pair of Infinity rs 3000's. The Accurian with the Insignias seems to have the best sound of what I got. So now I'm hoping to upgrade my speakers next.

Someone is selling all these speakers and I can't find any info on any of it. So I was hoping someone would know if any of these are decent, or worth getting. He said prices are starting at $25.

(1)Realistic Optimus 1; (2) Realistic MC-1000; (3) Fisher STV-726; (4) Realistic Optimus-18; (5) Realistic Nova 7-B; (6) (Kenwood KL5080 4-Way; (7) Infinity RSD6b; (8) Realistic Solo 8; (9) Pioneer HTP-100-CR & 100-F; (10) Kenwood Model LD-60 3-Way; (11) Midland 21-531

I have yet to come across any speakers that I know are good. I blindly bought some old Kenwood kl777 because they looked in good shape and were nice and heavy. I've heard that some people like them, but I don't.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

thanks

While I'm not really familiar with them, I would have thought the RS3000 would be pretty decent. :scratch2:

From the list of prospects, the only ones I recognize as being fairly desireable are the Optimus 1, Nova 7b, and possibly the Optimus 18. There may be others in that list, but I don't know them. Best bet is to listen to them all. if possible.

Which Technics receiver are we talking about?

It's a Technics 5060. The most basic in the series. It's the only working item I've found yet in the thrift stores. I think my area is pretty dry for this kind of stuff. I found a Sansui 3000a at an antique place that I got for $5, but the left channel doesn't work. Trying to bone up on some electronics to try to fix it. But for now I got the Technics.

Thanks for your input.

Have you tried some DeOxit on the Sansui or do you know there is problem with the electronics, capacitors, etc.

DoXit can solve an issue such as yours.

In reference to the speakers you have listed, the Optimus 1's are given positive comments but by no means high end. I have a pair of Nova-5's but they will sound very different to the Insignias which are great with imaging but lacking in other regards. What are the pricing on these as this may effect you decision. I think the Nova-7b's have 2 tweeter's - I know other have posted on these.

I forgot to add that I received a free pait of Optimus'2's who are the little brother to the 1's. I haven;t played with them long enough to give an accurate description. They were lacking on the high but I may be spoiled by my JBL-LX-44's.

the infinity rs6b's should be a nice step up, as they're three-ways with the EMIT, a polydome midrange, and an 8" poly woofer. they usually go for at least $100 i think. no experience with the others you mentioned.

i also would've thought the rs3000's would've bested the insignias by a bit - perhaps they need a little more power to open up. if that's the case, you'll want even more power if you get some rs6b's (a solid 40-50Wx2), but it would be MORE than worth it.

I believe its a problem with the amp. A fuse was blown and I put a new one in and it blew again right away.

Realistic Nova 7B's are very nice speakers, nice heavy cabs, but they will almost certainly need recapping (the crossover caps will have started to go south) It's not a hard operation, and will yield a very balanced, warm speaker.

Realistic MC-1000's are crap, I found a pair on the street and ran them for awhile in my office, but really flimsy construction and not good sounding to my ears.

I'd love to hear a pair of Kenwod 5080's myself, but they might not be your cup of tea; I've heard they're better than the newer KL-777's and that series (I had a pair of KL-333's and yeah, they weren't much to write home about)
