Need of advice

Hello, I am looking for some advice on a cartridge for a Sansui sr 838 turntable. When I picked it up I was told it hadn’t been used in 15-20 years, it has a Stanton cartridge on it that looks a bit rough. Hoping to get suggestions on a good replacement. I have a rega with a MM cartridge, is it worth going to a MC for the 838 so I have both? I am really not very knowledgeable about cartridges and am hoping I can get some guidance on a good route to go. 3 integrated amps on my shelf Marantz 1060, Kenwood KA 7100 and Sansui AU 717. ADS speakers L 710 & L 520. Thanks.

Don't count that stanton out. If the stylus is still good it probably sounds just fine. Aftermarket styli for the stanton are a mixed bag. That is s nice table, what model stanton is it?

If you want to go to mc, you'll need an appropriate preamp.
 
You didn't mention the model Stanton.

I would think since you have the cart getting a stylus would be a good move. Just need to make sure it is a working cart first. Both channel operating and all.
 
Nice gear you have there! There's hundreds of options for new or lightly used cartridges, from 49 bucks to thousands. What's your budget? If none of your amps have a setting for low output MC carts you'd need a separate LOMC preamp or a step up transformer. Or you could opt for a high output MC cartridge that will use your MM phono input. Or just go with a MM cartridge.

Thank you, budget around couple hundred bucks. Maybe the cart and stylus will be ok, I guess I was just assuming need new one.
