need realistic radioshack needle

Where is the best ( and cheapest ) place to buy turntable needles? I have searched with no luck. I have a realistic turntable. The turntable model is LAB -440

On the needle it says-

Shure 8X
R1000 EDT

Here you go. There are several styli to choose from on this page. It appears to be a rebranded Shure S-10 or GS-30 Premier Series cartridge. Looks like a variant of the M97 type.

I'm intrigued. Looks like he sells "generic" replacement styli. Are they any good? The Shure M97x replacement sells for less than half of what it goes for on Amazon. As I am in the market, I'd buy this if it was a decent replacement.
 
Some aftermarket Shure needles are absolutely fine. Others are crummy. I have gotten a bad not-really-a-Shure, but seems like most AT needles I get are fine if they are not genuine. Problem is that there are so many, and some have been warehoused for years, that you really are gambling. If your needle is sky high pricey it might be worth a gamble. But if you can afford a real one, or at least a real Shure substitute, go for that. If you buy an aftermarket from a dealer that backs up their stuff then it is worth a shot. Needle Doctor has a few aftermarkets and they are reputable. I am not sure if needledaddy1 will take returns, but you can always shoot an email and find out.

I'm pretty sure Needledaddy1 states the manufacturer in all his listings. I've bought many (5 or-so) stlii from him, but nothing too high performing in the first place--just replacements to get stock cartridges back in working condition.

The last one I bought from him was an elliptical replacement for a Shure M70 cartridge. Pretty sure what I got was Pfanstiehl (aka generic) which I knew when I ordered it. It was inexpensive and works as well as I would expect a $30 cartridge to work.

He's got over 27 thousand feedback points and still has 100% positive status. I'm sure he'd be happy to answer any questions before you bought from him.

I have that cartridge. It is a rebadged Shure M75ED T2 cartridge. An N75 stylus will fit it but an N91 will not. I bought a generic Pfanstiehl 4760-DE stylus from Needledaddy1 on eBay and it sounds quite good. It is a 0.3 x 0.7 mil elliptical and tracks at 2 gm. The original stylus was 0.2 x 0.7 mil and tracked at 0.75-1.5 gm. If you can find a NOS Shure N75ED, I am sure it will be better, but the generic sounds just fine to me.

I had a couple different R1000 series cartridges. Some are M75 and some are M91 series. The N75 stylus will fit all, but the N91 only fits the R1000E (I believe) because of the plastic interference.
 
It looks like the information I came up with is probably wrong. It looks like Radio Shack sold an R1000 (M75 ED T2) and an R-1000-EPT (S-10 Premier).

Yours is probably the M75ED T2, especially if the bottom of the cartridge body is flat. If it has a V-bottom, however, it would be the S-10. You should compare the stylus you have to photos on the web to see which one it is.

If it's the M75ED T2 your choice of styli will be both wider and cheaper. That's not to say that the cartridge isn't a good one. It 's quite good.

Oddly enough a good local source is Rat shack often competitive in pricing too. Neat thing is they are returnable if you get the wrong thing.

Edit:All corporate Shacks do, but you have to order them most have free ship.. I just ordered a couple of AT's Just look for the oldest person working in the store, and ask him/her to look them up for you.

Yes, some Radio Shack stores still sell styli but I think most do not. They are still available on the web too. You can check there to see whether they have toe one you need. You can check local stores via the web too.

A word of caution: according to some feedback left on the site, some of the styli described as original replacements are actually Pfanstiehl. A way to protect yourself might be to have the stylus delivered to your local store. Then, assuming that you don't have to pay online, you can just not buy it if it comes in not as described.
