Greetings, My SX-727 was "fully restored" by Absolute Sound Labs (ABS) about 2 years ago - replacement of all capacitors etc etc. It has worked wonderfully since. Suddenly there is constant "static" coming out of the right speaker output, independent of volume, balance controls or source settings. It is present on all three speaker outputs (A,B,C). It started out intermittent and is now pretty much constant except for occasionally going off with a sort of "pop". ABS now only works on MacIntosh equipment...so I need a recommendation for a trustworthy, expert repair. I would prefer one in the NYC NJ area but can ship it if needed. I had hoped that a "complete restoration" would avoid a problem such as this, but I guess not. I have a list of all the components that were replaced 2 years ago. Thank you for any advice or recommendation.

Thanks. I tend not to think so, since I can spin all the dials and run through all the positions of the switches and nothing changes - like running the balance, volume and tone knobs from one end to the other has no effect on the character or volume of the static. Neither does playing with any of the switches have any effect (except the ones that turn off the speakers). Any other diagnostics to try?
Well, I did that just now - the noise was still there. I turned it off.....and now now the thing has stopped working - the relay that is supposed to click on after a few seconds no longer comes on. I get no output at all, jumpers in or out. Power is there, the tuner seems to be responding (VU meters) but no sound at all. Does this indicate something????
Yes, pulling the jumpers helps isolate which section of the receiver is responsible. If it still made the same noise with the preamp disconnected, then the issue is either
in the main amplifier section itself, or something connected immediately after its output, before reaching the speaker terminals such as the protection circuit. Further testing would be needed to find the "exact" cause. If the relay is now not working as it should, one would need to check for DC offset voltage at the main amplifier output "before" it gets to the protection relay.

I can hope for the latter...though it is concerning that within a short duration of being on it went from totally fine, to occasional static to full time static to...the protection circuit not releasing. Am looking for someone knowledgeable to do a repair, preferably locally. Lots of places advertise but I am hesitant to take it anywhere without a recommendation.
I am a bit baffled given the "complete restoration" and testing done two years ago by someone very highly recommended, I believe on this forum, and it has not been "abused" in any way since. I could open it up and look around but I am not qualified to do a repair. Thanks for your help.

May not be anything real serious, but won't know for sure until it's checked out.
Issues in electronic equipment can develop all at once without warning. There is not necessarily a set fashion which failure occurs.
Don't have any idea what "complete restoration" means to those who worked on it. There's no guarantee something won't crop up in the future.
If there is a failed component someplace, it may be something they didn't believe needed to be replaced.
