Need some ideas for a new build

After all this, what Im essentially looking at is using EL34s as the outputs, 6SL7s as drivers, and either 6AX5s or 6AU6s as rectifiers. Are there any advantages to using the 6AU6s instead of the 6AX5s at the rectifier end?

Can a 6SL7 drive a triode strapped EL34? Or are you guys thinking of using them in SRPP?

I have a feeling that this is going to be a very nice amp . All octal sounds like a winner to me. How much output power will I be getting with a 5k Z?

Yes it can, with the sections paralleled

Something like this then, with a suitable power supply? Are there any benefits to using the 6SL7 paralleled as opposed to SRPP?

May I ask, why ransack a GSG? Having never heard the GB4, but I thought they were held high. The 2A3 cheapp alternative. What isn't desirable about tthe uality or sound? Thanks

Dont get me wrong, I love the sound of the GSG, but I also like to tinker. Ive taken the GSG as far as I can get it, and am in the mood for something different.

You guy's know me, I would do it a bit different. ;)

I'd run a 6BY5 rectifier. (6.3v 5V4 rectifier)

Pair of 6JB5, 6JC5 TV tubes for outputs, 1 per channel. (SE, UL)

And an ECC85/6AQ8 for the driver tube, (6DJ8, 6BK7, 6BQ7, 6BZ7 are rollable)

You'll get a nice 5wpc with that. (Bob if this is something you might want to do PM me an email address)

I'll shoot you a PM later on after I get off of work. Im still weighing my options, and this looks to be a good one as well. Thanks Keg!

Similar but I ran a bit more B+ and motor runs in the main filter. I also had some feedback, but I think I ended up doing away with it.:scratch2: I should be home in an hour or so.

I think a strapped EL34 into 5k will get you about 9 watts maybe 10.

It was kinda fun digging this old dude out. It was the first amp I ever built. Anyhow, you can see how simple the circuit is, so if you want me to draw it up, it won't be a problem. I can't remember what the secondary voltage on that Hammond PR40 tone cabinet power TX is, but I'm thinking it was around 800ct. That's the TX that blew two small holes in the back of my hand as I brushed across the outer tails of the secondary that I had sticking up for measuring. I still swear I could feel the lams vibrating in my teeth. Couldn't use that hand for about two days due to the pain from the muscles clenching up.:thumbsdn: Now I think I'm gonna hook her up and listen to some little girl with guitar music. Where's that Alantis Moresett unplugged CD?:scratch2:

BTW, notice the huge airgap on the choke. I had that (and the OPTs) custom wound at Heyboer.

Very nice looking Jay! This will be my first P2P amp, everything else I have done was with a PCB, so this should be alot of fun. Whats the most B+ I can get out of a 660V PT...330V? Any suggestions on a suitable choke?

Jay, you need to do something with that amp.....it's too purdy to be sitting around not seeing any duty. Nice looking:yes:

It really seems to like these BK16s that Celt built. I think it will be in the system for awhile now.

Thats what I like to hear. I run single driver speakers as well...Fostex FE207s in 24L BR cabs. A friend of mine is building me new cabs as we speaker...stretching the volume up to 38L :).

Looking at the data for the 6AX5, you can only use a 10uf input cap for cap input filter. Then you would have the choke (a very low DCR one preferably), then your big capacitance (couple hundred probably). I'd guess an easy 400, but maybe some kind soul would run a sim on Duncan for us. Anyone? Please?

I wish I still had my 300Bs here to do an A/B, but I don't think the Strapped EL 34 gives up much at all to the 300B, and you get mo power to boot.
