So I have a guy that has a Sony n77es amp and Sony Ta n7b amp that are in decent shape. Not sure if the n7b works and the n77es has the lights out. He knows nothing of audio and is not comfortable with testing them. The n7b has a speaker terminal broken, however looks clean. He says for me he would take 1600 for both, should I gamble or steer clear? I know the n7b has vfets and is desired, the n77es is one I've wanted fir some time. I just don't know what I should do. Ugh.

Any advice?

That's my feeling as well, I'm just not into crazy. I was looking at the overall value of each piece. The n7b being one that I was intrigued by.

Thanks Todd, I figured this was going to be the feeling. What would be a figure for sight unseen? 600? 700?

Consider how much a basketcase version of each amp sells for, offer that price. Perhaps $800 for the pair in the best of circumstances given the risk. If you're having them shipped by an amateur, even less.

Hmmmmmm

Didn't these come up a couple of days ago on D and S? Guy picked them up at GW or SA and then went to the bay with them. Sounds very familiar but I can't find the post right now.
He talked about the same issues with the amps, but he must have cleaned them up, because they looked rough from his original pics.
Maybe not him, but seems like it to me.

Agree. What would the chances be it was someone else selling those exact two models? Pretty low I'd imagine. Kevin, offer him $500 and if he says no, walk. I wouldn't give more than that for two amps that need work. Not worth it. Time and parts is money on top of that. And if you have to have someone else do the work...$$$ You could be up to $400 into each one on top of that. Maybe less but who knows if they haven't been properly diagnosed. Just saying. They are really cool amps though.

The two on ebay are being sold in used condition. I believe ebay says that they may have minor blemishes but they should function. In the description seller says something like not tested and sold as is. This could be a problem for him if they don't function "as intended". Biding is up over $600 now.

Dunno about the preamp, but I have a N77 amp that I paid $450 for... $1600 for both sounds way high.

The plot thickens, both have been tested and working. No issues to note and are "playing like a charm"

Its hard because I really want both, ugh. Hah, what a horrible addiction.
