just picked up a pioneer sx 1010. Looking for some speakers. Looked at some EPIs, looked at some Acoustic research, etc. what can you guys suggest? I'm going to run a technics 1200 turntable, have about a 15x15 room, listen to jazz and soul mostly.

i like a pretty warm sound with emphasis on the mid to low end. kind of a novice, so not sure what listening level is. I'd like to spend a few hundred dollars for the time being, then upgrade in the fall/winter when I have some extra $

if that's the case, and you want to go vintage way, you're looking for (for $200) ADS 710, large advent, ar2ax, klh 6, dynaco, epi, & etc. buy off of craigslist, from your local Ak'er, or ebay (locally), come back to AK and get some advices on how to refurb or clean, try it out, if you don't like it, sell it off and pick another. that's how you get hooked on this ....addiction.:thmbsp::music:

I just recently bought a pair of Acoustic Research AR-303's and must say they are fantastic. Very bass heavy, so if you like bass these are good speakers, great for jazz. I don't have much experience so I can't compare my set of speakers to much else, but for 150 dollars I am not complaining! Vinyl sounds great in combination with my Marantz 1300DC and AR-303's. Plenty of new tweeters and parts around too... GL!

HPM-100s would work well, I think. Nice deep bass and adjustable midrange and treble to help you dial them in just right. Good looking, too.

Just posted thread on how muh I'm liking my EPI's. I'd also second AR 2AX, and Dynaco A-25's. Dynacos are smaller in comparison but put out great sound.

ah man, the local thrift stores are great for records and old Pendletons, but stink when it comes to stereo equipment. The local place today has had the same pair of Panasonic turbo thrusters for about 3 months. on the other hand, i found a Pioneer SX 650 and a marantz 2200 receiver at the dump last week
