Need Turntable Advice

Hello, I am thinking about purchasing a turntable. I am considering a Denon DP300F with the Ortofon 2M red Cartridge. I also found a new Pioneer PL 200 from back in the day. The Denon is a belt drive automatic table and the Pioneer is a semi-automatic direct drive. The Pioneer comes with a Excel ES-28 Cartridge. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, the new Denon has a two year warranty while the new Pioneer has no warranty. ....Thank you, Bob

I can't comment on the Denon, but the price on the Pioneer is way out of line. The Excel cart is ok...quite old, and a moving iron design. I think the stylus is conical...not sure if you could find an elliptical version for it.

If it's in mint condition I'd grab it.

Seems like the OP could get quite a bit nicer table for that kind of money (he said that PL-200 asking price is $400). That's awfully steep for that table...seems to me that it should be sub-$150.

Bob, check the review section, there is a review and discussion about the Denon DP-300f. If you want a manual, check out the UTurn Orbit.

I ended up purchasing a Sanyo TP-1030 with an Empire cartridge. The unit received service and is in wonderful shape. I like the specs, I liked the way it looks and I purchased it from somebody I trust. I want to thank all for the assistance, that was greatly appreciated! Now, I would like to know what you think might be a great cartridge for the Sanyo TP-1030. ....Thank you, Bob
