It looks to be an interesting musical guest week for sure on Letterman, and a very rare appearance by Neil on a major tv outlet (by himself no less!).
 
I'll have to start drinking coffee about 10:30pm so I can stay up to watch him play. So far, I think Anton Figg has been at the top of the drum class. Sheila E didn't impress me at all and the gentleman Wednesday night didn't do much for me either.
 
Now how can a top 10 drummer list have Portnoy on it but not Terry Bozzio????

I hate to say it... Peart is a super fantastic drummer, but Bozzio is a couple light years ahead in my eyes..

I'd like to see William Reiflin, Martin Atkins....any of these kinda guys on here. You know, the ones you thought you were hearing a drum machine then saw live and were completely blown away by.....:yes:
 
I PVR'd each episode this week. Looking forward to Neil's performance for sure.

I attended one of Terry's clinics too. To each their own, but Neil wins by a long shot. The only modern rock drummer who comes close is Danny Carey. Before Neil, there was nobody better. Sorry, Bonham fans!! :D

while Neil is and continues to be one of my main influences for what he does, too many great musicians out there that have their own flavor and can not be placed in the same group as to compare apples to apples.

Neil, Danny, Mike and John have all raised the bar with their styles and have left their mark and changed the way we look and play kits. In my book, they all deserve to be on the top tier.
 
It amazes me that the name Gavin Harrison never comes up in conversations like this one. I will DVR this show tonight, Peart is a fine musician and an interesting character
 
My comment was not anything negative towards Peart (PW knows I'm a big Rush fan) or any of the others.

Just a comment on some other names it would be cool to see

This is my opinion as well, I've never heard anyone as good as Neil and I've heard just about all the "top tier" drummers in all the genres.

I agree with this as well. Rating is all subjective (and kind of silly imo) and many drummers are fantastic and contribute or have contributed to the collective musicianship of drumming for decades. There is no "best", but there are those that I prefer the "best" and Neil is that overall just as Rush is artist wise.

I didn't perceive it as such, so no problem there! :thmbsp:

Besides, I don't care if anyone hates him (or Rush) anyway. That's their right and I'll still enjoy him (and Rush) regardless.

But I certainly know you are a big fan of Neil and Rush!
 
I stayed up late to watch it last night. I had high hopes (probably too high) and was left disappointed. It was good but not great. Oh well. YMMV.
 
I kinda agree dodog... Yeah, nice playing but when you do compare Neil against someone like Bozzio, you can see and hear a huge difference... Kind of like the difference between Carlos Santana, and Jeff Beck..

One is damn good at playing, the other is pure finess and makes their instrument speak and cry all at the same time..
