Neil Young

I just bought Neil Youngs albums "Harvest" and "After the Gold Rush" They sound great on Vinyl. Its been so many years since I've listened to Neil Young. While I was picking up my Rega P3 the other day I heard Neil Young playing on a turntable in another demo room. All I could think about was how good it sounded and it inspired me to go out and get these 2 albums. I don't think I've ever heard them on CD so I don't really have a comparison.
These 2 albums were supposedly remastered from the analog masters. I don't really know what technical difference that makes.

The originals may sound even better, and are not expensive.

Nearly every Neil Young LP is available on vinyl. Some, however, are terrible digital recordings - Weld, in particular, is as cold as ice. On the other hand, LPs like Harvest Moon, Prarie Wind, and Silver and Gold are very nice.

It does make a difference. Although digital sources for mastering can be decent if high sampling rate sources are used and correct tapes used. Analogue all the way is best! :tresbon:

One of the best sounding LPs I've heard is Young's recent release of Live at Massey Hall 1971. It is both an excellent performance, and an excellent recording and very very highly recommended.

That is a great recording. I only have it on CD, haven't seen it on vinyl as yet. Great performances and so well recorded, very moving. Funny thin, I was supposed to go to that concert and my mother wouldn't let me (I was just too young to have the moxy to go anyway). I finally got to hear it at long last!

That may have been the one that was playing when I picked up my P3. I'm going to have to get that one.

I've got the new releases of Sugar Mountain, Massey Hall, and Live at the Filmore on vinyl. They are fantastic recordings and stunning pressings, worth every penny.

Funny you talk of Neil Young!

I just pick this up on Saturday, Rust Never Sleeps...........

Auditioned it in the afternoon. Sounded great!, I kept pushing the volume up and up!

I think Mr Young keeps his fingers on the production values? I don't think he lets crap out the door? Especially after WELD :(

The latest vinyl reissues are very nice and are better than the originals that I still own.

I know we tend to always like first pressings best (usually with good reason) but they got these reissues right. They are much better than the old ones.

You guys me inspired me and I put on 'Tonight's the Night'. I love the sound of that album, just "right there", Neil's voice completely casual almost like it isn't miked on some tracks.

+1 on Live at Massey Hall 1971, I believe Young's producer wanted this album to come before Harvest, but Young didn't want it to. But it's awesome. Highly recommended.
