Netflix to lower their Bitrate (in Europe)

Everyone staying home and streaming movies is apparently putting a strain on the Internet, so Netflix has agreed to cut the bitrate in Europe by 25% for thirty days.

Gotta wonder if that'll happen here too with more people staying at home.

Was just talking about that, wondering when the buffering problems will start with all the extra load.

I'd rather have some than none.

When I worked from home regularly over a DSL, the network used to slow down from about 4 pm to 8 pm most weekdays. It varied a lot. Sometimes I would stop working and come back later. It was the only thing that made me question "net neutrality".

The Amsterdam internet hub thing which is one of the bigger ones in Europe, peaked at 7,88 terabit per second last sunday. ( bits, not bytes), which seems a record.

I do not know how old this data above is.

Close to where I live, last years 2 very big datacenters came one from google one Microsoft.

Can you imagine, while everybody investing in solar power, DATA CENTER Growth OUTPACES solar panel energy growth? Some of the greenies watching movies on their smartphones all day long, waste a lot of energy....
