Netflix

I almost wish I was an anime fan as that is definitely one thing Netflix has a deep catalog on.

So far I've only been able to get through on, BLAME!. It was decent sci-fi. Perhaps you can recommend a few in the direction?

Sword Art Online is Sci-fi, set in Japan of the near future with the plot centered on VR MMORPGs. The games are mostly sword-and-sorcery, and there's some romance too (getting into issues of friendship, love and marriage in VR), but it is Sci-fi at the center of it all. It reminds me, in a good way, of the way Jack Chalker would combine SF and fantasy in his novels.

I have Netflix, seldom use it, but just enough to justify the fee. I usually want to watch music related, but the selection is slim. Maybe Monty Python will save the day.

Just watched Now More Than Ever - The History Of Chicago (band)
Lots of shade at Peter Cetera.
They were just not the same post Terry Kath, and that’s an understatement.

My wife and I have gone back and forth between streaming Netflix and having the Blu-ray discs mailed to us. We finally decided to keep getting the DVDs because we could never find anything to watch on their streaming service. We have the one disc at a time plan and we get a DVD on Wednesday, watch it that night, send it back and have another one in time for Saturday night movie night.

Very cool - Emma and I also do the physical discs as well - 1 at a time.
Works out to 4 a month for us as we generally save them for the weekend (Sat night, usually).
I mail it back Monday AM and (usually) have a new one Weds or Thurs.

Have you tried ‘Crazyhead’ yet? Its a streaming British show - somewhat like Buffy -
female leads going after demons and all kinds of mess in UK location -
brash, edgy, and funny. tho there's only 1 season so far ...

My main complaint with Netflix is the compressed audio.
TV programs run through the same Xfinity box are fine.
Not much help from the limited Netflix setup menu, looks like a common complaint on some AV forums.
We have found some good Netflix series and documentaries, but as far a movies go, I would probably spend less time running to a Redbox kiosk, rather then endless scrolling required on Netflix in an attempt to find something other than a romantic comedy...
Great concept but could use some improvements.

It is too bad there is not yet a great app that looks at the movies you have enjoyed and recommends others in the same vein.

I can always find interesting things to add to my Netflix list, but it does take some digging.

We dumped cable years ago and do OTA and Netflix DVDs. Recently a friend took pity on us and gave us a Fire Stick, so we also stream Prime for free. One way or another we usually find something to watch. OTOH, there have been some real losers and some series I thought would never end. The Snowman for the first and Fortitude for the latter.

Netflix isn't great, but they do have a deep catalog. The best way I know of exploring it is by genre, which can be found by going into the search area and scrolling down. Lots of indy and international stuff especially.
Agreed..especially British tv series such as Vera.

Ozark:thumbsup:
Looking forward to Episode 3 tonight

Another show they have is The IT Crowd, a hilarious, clever British comedy show about the IT department in a large company.

We still use Netflix, but like a lot of things, at this point the "new" has kind of worn off. The idea of watching a good movie still appeals to me, but struggling through the search function is too much like work, and their "suggestions" are starting to irritate me. It is particularly annoying to be tossing up 4 and 5 star flags which to me would suggest something about quality or whether a lot of people liked it, when the reality is that Netflix just knows you're gonna love it.

try some non-US shows/movies. no happy endings with million dollar actors.

Korean: Steel Rain, old boy, age of shadows, operation chromite

Chinese: kill zone 2, cold war 2, three

some really great (low episode count) series:
Russian: the method, silver spoon, sniffer
Norwegian: Occupied

Watched a couple of good movies recently:
Kodachrome
Remember
The Company Men
Flash Of Genius
The Meyerowitz Stories

I can no longer watch action movies, so that whole genre is a waste of space to me.

Now on the Scandinavian front, we Finnished Deadwind. It was a very good first season set in Finland.
