Network -- the movie

Network has been one of my all time favorite movies since I saw it in the theatre in 1976. It was just just about lights-out time last night, or a bit later than that, and I stumbled onto this great movie on "the tube". It was only about 15 minutes into it and even as exhausted as I am, I had to watch for a few minutes. I caught the most memorable scenes and almost made it to the end but I realized that it was just past 3:00AM and I didn't remember the previous ten minutes so It was off to bed for me. I will have to pick up a copy and watch the entire movie again soon.

There are many excellent actors in that movie. Obviously Peter Finch as Howard Beale is the center of attention but I thought that Ned Beatty's explanation(!) of how the universe works was outstanding. The story about how "the tube" was used to influence the masses in 1976 was as prophetic then as it is today, except that today, in addition, we have the internet to really amp things up -- and indeed it does!

Perhaps we should have an updated and appropriately toned down version of Network to help PARENTS show grade school kids what they are beginning to be immersed in. It might serve as a good reminder for parents too!
