Picked this up today. I didn't hesitate as they don't pop up very often here is Australia. It was from a deceased estate. All booked in with my tech for the full once over and resto where necessary. Can't wait to compare it to my BAF1 / CAF1 combo.

Congrats - they are rare indeed in Australia!

There are some excellent threads on the forum regarding restorations of these beasts.
 
That is a fabulous amp you got! Spent years looking for one and finally found on and paid all the money for it and have never regretted it. I remember way back in the day dreaming of owning one but never could afford it. If I can ever find someone I can trust to recap it I would do it in a heartbeat.

I have my X1 paired up with a set of JBL L100t that I rebuilt and it sounds quite clean with great base response. For what it worth I have hooked the X1 to the following speakers but always seem to go back to that setup. Considering my age, ear for sound and knowing what I like here is what if found from top to bottom worked well with my X1 with the speakers I have hooked up to:

1: JBL C50 SR7
2: JBL L100T
3: B&W 501 Matrix S3
4: Altec Model 14
6: B&W 800D
7: JBL 250ti

I hope you at least replaced those black flags.
 
Wouldn't want to make it a boat anhor so it is waiting for service. I have had my 717 done years back but the tech passed on the X1. From what I gather the X1 isn't the most friendliest amp to work on so I haven't found a guru yet. Ugh darn it Amp were made to play wish me luck I going to break it out again.
