Hey guys, new to the forum but have checked in for a couple of years here and there and this seems to be the place to ask the people in the know.
So I'm in the market for an integrated amp, but not a lot of cash to spend (300 or less), so obviously used is going to be the way to go, although I've seen some decent new basics out there (was considering Cambridge 351A, or one of Yamahas, or even a used Music Hall A15.3 etc...) I'm separating my music system (Music Hall MMF 2.1, and separate CD player) from my growingly cluttered receiver w/surround sound 5.1 and a bunch of digital crap plugged into it). Going pure 2 speaker set up.
A guy I know is selling a clean, tested and nice sounding Onkyo A-5 from the late 1970's, recapped for $300. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on it, I'm a sucker for the classics and it sounded great on his test, but just wanted to get thoughts here first. Or maybe you can point me to and even better amp in that price range, classic or new doesn't really matter.
(Also, if your curious, my speakers are a pair of Energy CF-50's, which I don't think get a lot of love around here, but they really sound nice to me).
Thanks in advance for any thoughts on the A-5 or perhaps suggestions!
