New AT-LP120 or older Technics SL-D303?

+ on not stacking components turntable/receiver causing harm to both due to heat. Install the turntable on a heavy/solid/stable/level table/stand/shelf.
 
The OP might want to download the owners manual from Vinyl Engine and it will give advice as to setup/placement of the turntable. Another negative factor to consider if the components are stacked is turntable hum issues caused by close placement to the receivers transformer. Also placement of the turntable in direct sunlight is discourged by mfgs.
 
^ Good point....I keep mine about 6" away from the amp, not stacked on anything. You can see pics if you visit my albums....My AT LP120 is very quiet and tracks as well as any $500 table I have auditioned.
I just re-aligned my cart, and that eliminated a lot of surface noise...did not realize how off it was.

What gets me is that so much of this webite is about buying/finding that pc of equipment that performs as if it were double the price....Well to me this table does that, with some care and cartridge alignment it sounds pretty darn good.
I can only imagine how this table would sound with a better cartridge and midline phono amp.....That's where I am at.

I have been looking at new tables, but man, I just can't see spending $1200+ for a table/cart combo.

And I do love all my vinyl!
