New AU-D11II

My results are from a side by side comparison of the AU-719 and the AU-D11 II. What happened to me was a near nirvana state when I first took a listen to the AU-D11 II. Wow what a clean crisp sound at all volumes. I compared that to the 719 which I had previously thought sounded the best ever. There was a vast improvement in low volume clarity with the AU-D11 II. At higher volumes the 719 catches up but I don't really crank it up that much as I've got a set of washer sized Sentry III speakers with 15" woofers and my house starts to shake when the volume is up. So "most" of the time i'm at low level on the volume and thats where the real clarity shines thru. My new to me AU-D11 II dropped a right channel and this amp is beyond my limited scope to tackle so its out of play right now and I really miss it. The 719 is just not up to the same par sound quality wise. Some folks here thought the 719 was better or at least on par with the 717. Speakers I'm sure have a good deal to do with how one amp sounds hooked up to amp A vs amp B, as well as room acoustics etc.

My .02,

Bob Brown

Agreed.
(Which comes as a shock to no one.)
The first watt on the D11-II is awesome.

Sansui AU A11ii

Hi all.

The B-2101 looks like an awesome match for the low frequency bi-amping with the AU D11II. I think that it's 200 rms Watts per channel, X balanced like the D11II, and it looks like the G99X which must have been electronically quite similar to, although not as solidly built as the D11II. Zekeman, how do you like the bi-amping result?

For those of you who are interested in my switchbox, I spent many months scannining ebay for one, hoping to come up with the Sansui (though it is silver) but wound up with a black (cheap vinyl overlay, but easily redone with contact paper) Amco switching system model cm 3. It has screw in connectors and can handle 20 amps, 20 speaker pairs, choose between 2 sources (though I just run the RCA inputs directly into my integrateds). There is a jack for a remote, which I don't have, a power switch to light up the push buttons for the amp and speaker selectors as well as wiring to light up lamps which I suppose were placed in front of the amps and speakers so that you could see which you were listening to. There also 2 other function switches whose function I don't know. One says master gain and can be set in increments of -60, -40, -20, 0, +4, +8, +12, perhaps for choosing different volume levels. The other switch says SPL and has in and out settings. In labeling the amp inputs, I threw away the old labels but the speaker labels are still there and say Altec Lansing (no model), Sonovox SE (models 893, 790, 892, 791, 690, 694, 691), JBL (S3, S4), and Cerwin Vega (MW6, CMT5).
Do these model numbers mean anything to someone out there to help date it or as far as component quality?

Good listening to all, and I love reading everyones opinions.

Marc

After a couple months of listening I can say that the D11 is the best sounding amp I have heard. I believe it sounds better that the Mac MA6200 although I still need to do an AB comparison.

It has gobs of power and the tone controls barely need to be tweaked off of detent for pure open audio.

Au D11 Ii

So, Zekeman, are you bi-amping with the B 2101, or don't you feel the need?

Marc

I hear ya on the best sounding amp - mine worked for about 2 weeks and 1 channel dead, it's off to the HiFi Hospital to let John work his magic. Can't wait. I've been tinkering around with a Technics SE-9060 in my bi-amped system and so far that amp hooked up bi-wired to a set of Dahlquist D-8s sounds pretty impressive. I did have that same system bi-amped with a set of AU-999s and the Technics amp sounds pretty good.

I'm also a new subsriber and really I just wanted to see my sucbscriber thingy light up so how's it look?

More on the Technics amp - I need to take a more detailed listen - so far just listening to a Sony T-80 tuner, with some rabbit ears - wow what a difference a pair of rabbit ears makes. The T-80 has very good stereo seperation and I get great reception as well. More to come.....

Number nine ... bottoms up!

Cheers,

Bob

Looks good, Bob.
Thanks for supporting AK!
John will look after you well. No worries there.

Biamping, yes...

The signal from the D11 goes into an Ashly active crossover then into the 2101 which drives subs. Works nicely.

I went back into my D-11 last week. My Son is now interested in vinyl. The only area I didn't recap last year was the phono eq board, although I did install the new opamp at that time.

The left channel was weak and crackly with the turntable. So last week I pulled it apart (not for the feint of heart). Recapped it. Bathed the "Disc" switch in deoxit and deoxitGold. Re set the DC.

Sounds really nice now.

Old thread but what the hell.

I still have my D11ii but no longer need a subwoofer amp because I run it into ADS L1530’s. The bass is so deep and clean I disconnected the sub.

I will say this though, I had ADS L1230’s running with the sub and the quality approaches that of the 1530’s.
