I am in the market for a new turntable. While a nice thorens would be great, I have yet to find one close to where I live. I just can't bring myself to have one shipped:nono: . So looking at new in the 3-4 hundred range what would you suggest?
Music Hall Turntable: MMF-2.1
Pro-Ject Debut III
Rega P1

Any others?
TIA

I'm in the same boat as you, but I'm thinking of jumping a little higher and going for a Demoed Music Hall MMF5. I've seen them on Audiogon for $400 to $500. Everything I read about the MMF2 was good but sooner or later you would want to up grade because it would be getting worn out with any real playing.

That's my 2 cents Good Luck

I recently purchased a Rega P1 and so far I'm pretty happy with it.

I highly recommend the ProJect Debut III. It is a great starter table.

Original 180 gram "Dr. Dre, The Chronic" :smoke:

Boy I miss them days...

How would it get "worn out"? I'm curious.
Tom

Well, I'm biased, but I'd go with a Technics SL 1200. I'm pretty sure you won't wear it out either. Somthing to be said for mass in a Turn Table.

Take care,

Ed

I have been trying to deduce your age for some time clarence...I had you pegged for maybe 35-40, but now I'm all confused again with this Dr. Dre album...:scratch2:

I'm 28. The Chronic was the first album I ever bought on CD, around age 15. My first cassette was Beastie Boys "License to Ill" at about 12.

A great time to grow up with some really classic rap. But, I changed over to "Grunge" with Kurt, Pumpkins, etc.. shortly after....

:D

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I will think about it and do some looking around this weekend. You never know, should be lots of yard sales in my neck of the woods this weekend. Its supposed to be almost 80 degrees here this weekend! Mabee I'll find something.
Peace
Al

The reading I've done on Audiogon and audioreview make me believe that the table would not stand up very long to long periods of use. There where alot of bad reviews on the arm and cartrdge. If you go to audioreview you wil find one person who gives a pretty good discription of the protential problems with this table. Another person on Audiogon when talking about upgrades stated the only suitable upgrade would be to buy a MMF5. This was the infomation I was basing my earlier post on.

It's excellent.. A real classic. My favorite "new" album purchase to date. Got me hooked on sound stage direct. Class of 96!! Cool....

In the price range you might also look for a Yamaha PX-3 and with a little luck a PX-2. They are a little risky, due to the IC's controlling the TT are unobtainable.

Another coble of Yammies are the YP-D8 and 10, nice TT's.
