New C22 compared to C2300 preamp?

At this time I own McIntosh C2300 preamp.
Is there any advantage to C22 besides retro look as far as audio performance is concerned?
Would you sell C2300 preamp to have C22 with matching MC75 power amps?

I was considering MC275 stereo power amp until these MC75 were announced...

advise needed....

Hi Dan-R,

I have the C2200 (LED Mod) and am very happy with it. As for the C2300, am not familiar with its performance but in this forum, think it had very good votes. So, you do have a great pre-amp.

As to changing it for the C22 60th Anni & coupled that with its matching MC75, if its me, I would and depending on the speakers, lets says its the XR200, then I would go buy one pair of the MC275 and have them mono'ed to drive the bass while the MC75 would be driving the mid's and highs allvia the C22.

I am very into retro .... Thats my opinion.

In the end, you must decide what's the "M" factor that fascinates you cause every piece of McIntosh gear has its own attractive characteristics and thats true for even the vintage gears!

I think the C22 only has a MM phono stage whereas the C2300 has both MM and MC in case you are spinning vinyl :yes:

C22 is a nice looking pre amp for sure ! I think the C22 if Mcintosh were to add it to the line up as a non special edition would be between the C220 and the C2300 as tube pre amps go. I heard it was basically a C2300 without the meters.
 
I used to have a vintage C22 and a C22 CE, Both very good preamps.

Then I now have a C2200 and I have no regrets for 2 reasons:

- The C2200 is dead silent. My 2 C22s were not.

- I prefer the C2200 as the sound is more natural, crystal clear. I think the C22 has more a vintage flavor in sound quality.

As for look, I love to have meters so the C2200 is also a winner.

Brice.......I agree. The C2200 is a wonderful preamp, with a ton of technolgy under the hood that was only dreamed of when the original C22 was current. The new reissued C22 has been said to be a C2300 under the hood, so todays technology has been employed, and disguise as vintage hardware. Lots of folks will like this.

I have a small vintage McIntosh system, mostly for nostalgic reasons. Looking at it, and listening to it reminds me of my younger days, but my preference is for the new McIntosh look and feel. Some people want to call the black glass McIntosh look retro. Not me. It's as modern as modern gets in my book. :thmbsp:
