New car toy......need forums info

Always wanted weird stuff-tried in vain to gety dad to get a VW microbus-the one w/the sunroof & all those little windows in the top. Imagine my chagrin when they came out w/the new one in '68 that did away w/all that. Also wanted a 2CV Citroen- pretty zany car or a Russian Lada Niva-sorta the Russian answer to the S-10 Blazer or the original Bronco. Or maybe a Zaparogets- another Russian car, their answer to the Chevy Corvair. Be interesting to see if Russian cars are really as bad as they're supposed to be. -Sandy G.

I found the Chrysler buy out info from the FSJ website, They said 1987, I never really paid attention to it and didn't really know (or remember) they made those things until 1991 until searching for one on ebay a couple years back.
From what they said, Chrysler also had to agree to buy parts from Renault for some period of time also as part of the deal.
Anyone know if this was true??

1987 is correct. Yes they did have an agreement with Run-Oh to buy the stock of parts and stuff that was in transit. As a matter of fact, they kept the Eagle brand name just long enough to use up the stock they had on hand. The R14(?) sedan they sold under the Eagle brand were assembled in Canadia and were pretty horrible (the car, not the labor content). All manner of electrical glitches, power steering leaks akimbo, just Bleeeccchhh overall.

Why in the hell Chrysler didn't keep the M bodies (Diplomat police car body) in production down in Mexico is beyond me. They already were building a notch roof 2 door version down there (have seen one in the flesh) and it would've been simple as hell to build the police/taxi versions down there at a huge savings (between the fact that the tooling had already been long amortized plus the almost free labor). Stupid stupid stupid. They literally handed the police business over to Ford on a silver platter. Granted the M bodies had their detractors and supposedly there are still some outstanding lawsuits over the front suspension design problems, but that never stopped production of a car before! LOL
