The Shure V15 III with factory stylus is what I use on my Q much of the time. Grado just is not my cup of tea. While a JICO on the Type III will sound fantastic, be prepared for it being a bit bright, as JICO does not use a piano wire support to tune their Type III replacenent. Your stereo and room might be just fine with this. Lots of variables.

I had a factory stylus on my v15 type 3 until it just gave out. I’m not sure what do to here, should I search eBay and get an original? Or should I get JICO? or are there any other cartridge options. The grado sounds “meh” but not even close to what my v15 sounded like.
 
The Type III is a classic for all the best reasons. An original stylus can easily put you in debt these days. And the suspension will probably be just fine, but what if it had been stored in a city with high ozone levels or in the Mojave?

This +1, Great sled! I use a Nagaoka MP-200 on my Dual. Great sounding cartridge.

Do you think the JICO SAS is what I should go for? or will it sound bright? I really like how the sx1010 and the 1229Q both give off a really warm but detailed sound. I am not the biggest when things start to sound bright. Do you think it will sound bright? What other cartridges should I go for?
 
The AT-VM95ML (or any other from that line) absolutely sings in my 1229. Very warm and weighty, like my old Pickering XV-15.

Running a Jico on this one. I have another base like this one. Though retired I work in a furniture store. Our finisher redid the cabinet on the Marantz 2270. At some point he is going to redo it. I may want to flip it. I have two 1219s giving me fits. May part one and let go of the base. Don’t need them as I have 2 1219 fully functional plus a 1229.

Good to know someone else is using the JICO stylus. Is it the SAS one? How do you like it? If you ever decide to flip it I would definitely be interested in it. I can't tell from your profile photo, is it the breadbox style plinth?
 
LP Gear has a vivid line replacement(VN35VL) for the V15iii. After years of running the SAS on my 1229, I have switched to this one. They are very close in sound, the SAS sounds slightly brighter to my ears. And the VL is much less expensive so it's a no brainer for me.

Thanks for the reply! How good does your setup sound as a whole? Would you recommend the SAS or VN35VL? Do they sound good?

Ditto. I’m running a Ortofon Super OM 10 on my PE turntable (which was owned by Dual at the time, built incredibly similar). I think the highs are a TINY bit shrill, but overall it sounds fantastic. Could just be from the 45s I use being from 1952.
 
^Quite possible. Found mine to sound well-rounded, but, majority of the records I played were 1960s-1980s 33 1/3 rpm LPs with different equalization settings. The stuff from the early '50s did sound a bit on the bright side, compared to what I remembered them being with either a Signet MP101 or an Audio Technica AT88E. The MP101 was on a Technics SL-BD20 and the 88E was on another 1009SK Dual.

Hard to say how the system sounds on a message board, let's just say I love it! As far as the SAS vs the VM35VL, the SAS has just a bit more edge in the upper freq. If you're concerned about brightness, I'd go for the VL. In my system it's very nicely detailed without being harsh or fatiguing. But that's my system, yours may likely sound completely different.
