New Cartridge/Stylus for Sansui FR-D35 or not?

New to the TT/vinyl world and just dug out my parents' old record player, a Sansui FR-D35. It's a little beat up but I wanna see what I can do with it before I look into finding a better player in due time.

It currently seems to have an Ortofon 305 phono cart on it, which I know isn't the original. The stylus is probably pretty beat up and hasn't been touched in a good 20+ years.

I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to go find a new stylus for this cart (if so, which needle? Would I need the stylus specifically for this cart or are new needles interchangeable on this old cart too?) or to go buy another cart altogether (if so, which? Is the AT95E is a decent option)?

Thanks for any suggestions or info you guys can provide!

Welcome,
Its safer to buy a new complete cart, as you don't want to damage the vinyl. AT95E is a good start. Also, the Cart has to be setup correctly on the turntable to get the best out of it.

Welcome to the AK Sansui forum.

For now it would be better to just replace and or upgrade the Ortofon cartridge.

If you replace the cartridge with a new one.

You would have to:

1. Remove the old cartridge.

2. install the new one.

3. Re-aligned the new cartridge properly.

Or jus pull out the old stylus and insert the new stylus.

I think this one should work:

Check the Ortofon website to make sure.
