New cd player recommendations

It seems as though my old Sony 9000es has read it's last disc. This time around I'm thinking brand new would be the best option. Does anyone have any recommendations for a new $500 max single disc player? I looked at an Emotive erc3 and that looks like a decent player. Does anyone have any thoughts on that one?

It just seems like a solidly built player that's able to play sacd's and browsing Amazon didn't turn up anything comparable.

I may be missing something, but it looks like the ERC-3 will play hybrid SACDs. That is, it will play the red book (PCM/standard CD) layer of a CD, which pretty much any CD player will do. It won't play the SACD layer of a hybrid disc or single layer SACDs (i.e., it won't decode DSD).

Just thought I'd point this out. Seems like the advertising is a little misleading.
 
Since Onkyo stopped selling the C-S5VL in the U.S., I'm not aware of any SACD players that can be had for under $1K.
 
If it were me buying new, my choices would be:

1. Low budget: Onkyo C-7030, $179 new; spend the difference on music
2. CD player in price range: Marantz CD5005 or CD 6005 (three year warranty)
3. SACD player: Marantz SA8005
 
Oppo BDP-103@$499. It plays everything (including pure SACD's), looks pretty good (IMO) and has superb specs.

Wouldn't you know it now my 9000 is playing perfectly. I can't trust it now though.
 
Don't trust it. I have a very nice Sony SCD-777ES CD player now that was formerly a very nice SACD/CD player.

Very happy that I have now ripped all my SACDs to DSD files and stream them to a DSD dac - sonically superior to the Sony and I'm done buying expensive players that can become boat-anchors like this.

Yes I'm quickly becoming a fan of all digital to. When it crapped out last night I plugged in my smartphone and used spotify. While the sound isn't cd quality it was listenable and pretty nice to change songs and adjust the volume from my smartwatch on the other side of the room. I didn't miss digging through cd's at all.
