"New" Denon DP-59L needs needle for MC Cartridge PIC!!

I bought a DP-59L this morning in pristine condition this morning. In box for over 20 years and everything still there and looking new. Audio Technica transformer for the MC included.

Cartridge is Denon DL-103M MC. The cantilever is broken off, can it be replaced?

Yes, there are companies that would re-tip a cartridge.
It is an expense some of us are not accustom to!!!
The testimonial are very good, you need to draw your own conclusion.:music:

The stylus on this cartridge isn't user replaceable. You will need to send it to a retipper such as Expert Stylus in England or SoundSmith in New York. Be prepared to shell out at least $150 for the service. Both companies I list do excellent work and are recommended. :tresbon:

Nice. What did you pay for that work of engineering art?

I hope you realize this table is incredibly complex; the tone arm has multiple sensors and feedback actuators and actively cancels arm resonance and makes corrections to tracking; it is controlled by an on board computer.

Here is an illustration showing the internal primary parts of the arm system:

The table itself is a very high grade direct drive system.

You should get lots of enjoyment from this table.

The 103M originally had a boron cantilever, so it's a shame it was broken off. If you send it to Soundsmith, the $150 option is an aluminum cantilever and eliptical stylus which will sound great but will also be inferior to the original cantilever/stylus of the cart. If you're willing to step up to the $250 level, you could get a ruby cantilever and line contact stylus. That would be one heckuva cart!

BTW, the the 103M is an ultra-low output cart at .12mv and there are varying opinions as to whether it sounds better with a step-up or an active gain stage. What's the AT step-up you have?
