While keeping my eyes open for a deal on a motor for my 510, I came across a 1219 for sale locally. It's in really nice condition but needs the usual cleaning and re-lubrication. Following the guides on Vinyl Engine and threads, it cleaned up quite nicely. I haven't lubed it yet, but now the cueing, auto pickup, record size selector, and speed selector all at least move and cause things to happen. I still need to replace the steuerpimpel, as the tone arm doesn't move automatically.
All went well until I was reassembling it. The C-clip that holds the pitch adjustment pointer launched into who knows where as I was putting it back on the shaft (the first pic). The speed control and pitch adjustment seem to work without the clip, but the friction between the two causes the pitch to change when the speed selector is moved between 33 and 45. My question is does anybody have this clip from a junked 'table, have a spare available, or know where one can be obtained? Alternately, have any had success using something else to take the place of this clip?
My initial observations on this 1219 is that this thing is solid! It feels significantly heavier than the 1228 and 510 I have. For some reason, it was mounted to a smaller plinth, which looks stupid to me. I traded it with the one from my 510, and it definitely looks better. Plus, the cover will close while playing a record without hitting the counterweight. I'll likely build a new plinth for the 1219. I'd think this should be fairly straightforward, as I can use the one from the 510 as a template. Even with all the documentation I used for this, taking pics (like the one of the clip below) with a pointer at the part being removed helped immensely. I'd have struggled for another hour or so, I'm sure, without the one of the speed control.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
