New Dual Idler Wheels from Canada

That makes sense. I like the new design that allows for less overall rubber. Decreases the chance of it running a bit wobbly, like you said.

did you happen to run any wow+flutter tests with the new offering?

The factory wheels are fine until......
A platter is installed with the idler in 'run' position. This bends the core and it wobbles from that time on.
With a new idler in place, one can now bend the idler carrier bracket instead. You need to be certain unit mechanism is OFF before installing platter.

I've tried three of those idlers and in every case the turntable sounded better to me but honestly I didn't measure. Truthfully I was replacing pretty bad idlers but the new ones get great traction and have really low bearing friction plus they don't seem to have any run out that I can detect. I've done a 1229, 1019 and 1015.

Re: Above issue is usually initially caused by the glue at back of tube letting loose.
Trick to getting things back to where they belong is to use a mirror, just like setting up an SME arm.

A note:

I asked a customer this morning for permission to order/install/charge him for a new Canadian idler wheel on his 1219 repair.
I just now ordered the thing and the order form claims I bought the last one, so I included a note for information concerning situation.

Actually I meant the arm the idler is on. I really hope I don't have to deal with the tone arm coming loose...

Bruno got back to me.
New idlers are available.

I am tired of recycling idler wheels. Sadly, very few customers are willing to spend the extra bucks for perfection. Not all flat spots can be fixed with sand paper and a drill and certainly a bent core wil always be bent.

Great! I will be ordering one. I only paid $10 for my 1219 like 12 years ago and paid $50 for a dustcover. $65 to replace the somewhat hard one for better W&F is worth it.

I purchased one of these idler wheels for my 1219, back in February, 2021. Excellent workmanship! I took some time to adjust the pulley for the correct speed with the pitch control in the center position. My digital tachometer shows the results at both 33 and 45 RPM speeds. I never did check it at 78, since I never use that speed!
