New Emotiva XPA Gen-3 modular 2 to 7 channel amp

Emotiva is now listing their new Emotiva XPA Gen-3 modular amp on their website:
https://emotiva.com/products/amplifiers/xpa-gen3

The base enclosure basically always has one shared 3kW power supply, and one can then configure/buy it with 2 to 7 channels/amplifier modules.

Here's the marketing talk:

"...The new XPA Series utilizes a high-current switch mode power supply. It's a power supply capable of delivering over 3Kw of continuous power with absolute reliability and extremely high efficiency. It shares the dynamic attributes of a classic transformer-based design with none of the downside. It's lightweight, intelligent, and extremely powerful!

Massive old school transformers and giant filter capacitors are rendered obsolete. They just can't compete. It's a revolution in power design, and it's the backbone of the new XPA modular amplifier system. It's the way of the future, and it's here now..."

Any thoughts SA experts?

If nothing else, the amps will be cheaper for mfg to build & ship. Of course they have an explanation to justify the change. Doesn't every mfg?

Well, it has a lot of marketing drool on it since switch mode power supplies have been around a lot longer than Emotiva has been.

Other than that, the only possible downside is future DIY repairability. However, if Emo did it right, that should be no concern for at least 20 years or more.

One of their earlier multi-channel amps was the same way - you could buy it with up to 5 channels or start with two then add modules as you went along. From a manufacturing standpoint it would be cheaper than building separate 2, 3, 5,and 7 channel amps. Also, as @whoareu99 stated it would be cheaper for them to send you a replacement module instead of an entire unit. Emotiva pays shipping in both directions for warranty repairs.

The marketing hype is just that, and not unique to Emotiva. I can say so far that I'm happy with everything I've bought from them and feel like I got my money's worth.

In my experience they only pay the return shipping. One of the reasons i stopped trying to get my CDP repaired (right).

Sorry to hear that. I bought a Sherbourn PT7030 from them right after the acquired Sherbourne. One of the RCA jacks was defective and the ground pulled out when I removed a patch cord. I contacted them and they paid for the return shipping and sent me a new one. IMO, if its their defect the shipping should be on them.

BTW still very happy with this preamp!

I will say, when I got it back with the same defect it left with, they paid both ways. It's been back and forth 4 times. While it plays perfectly now the tray mechanism is noisy, which it wasn't when it left me. Maybe I just got a lemon. It certainly appeared to be built well. I just had an unusual amount of issues which will have me avoiding them in the future.

I have been very happy with the SA-250 amp. No problems whatsoever.

Right now I'm interested in their DC-1 DAC/pre-amp.
