New grill cloth, now I need some badges...

Finally got around to replacing the grill cloth on my Dynaco A25's, and my AR-4x's are next! Can anyone recomend a source for the badges, or have some they are willing to part with? The speakers look great with the new cloth, but the missing badges are distracting, to say the least! Call me anal retentive if you must, but every time I look at the speakers I can't stop thinking that all is not right without the badges! If this keeps up they will have to up my meds! Soon I will be found wandering the streets in a dirty old bathrobe, mumbling "Badges, Badges, Badges...." over and over again! So, for the safety of the general public at large, who should not be subjected to the sight of some fat guy in a bathrobe mumbling in the streets, if you can assist me in finding or obtaining some AR-4x and Dynaco A25 badges, my neighbors would appreciate it! :para: :nutz:

Be thankful they're not vintage tannoys, I've seen some early Tannoy badges sell for over £50, thats around $85 to $100 a pair!

AAKKK!!!! I don't even have half of that into both pairs! The 4x's were very cheap, i don't remember how much but I know it was less than $50, and the Dynaco's were gifted from two of my favorite AK members! Add in some caps (When I get off my butt and order them) cloth, and refinishing supplies, and a pair of Tannoy badges will cost more both my pairs combined!

I think I have a pair of AR badges around here......just moved to TX so I will have to dig them up. They are the old type that just say AR rather than having a model number included. Let me know if you want them.

This brings up another question concerning the Dynaco A-25 badges. Were the original logo's screwed or nailed on?

Screwed.

When I built new frames, I broke off the old screws and then glued them to the new grill cloth. The new frames are removable.

I picked up a pair of A-25's for $10 and decided to scuff them a little and put on a new finish since I was doing others at the same time. So while I had my grills off I decided to wash the dust out the grills. The black paint on the grill frames washed off somewhat and it might have bled slightly on the grillcloth. :gigglemad I've got them drying now, so we'll see how they turn out. I recapped these jewels and the sound is really surprising, I wish I could find another pair...

Thanks jbpollock! I would love them! I never saw the original badges before, so I'm not sure which ones came on the 4x's, but it doesn't matter that much to me if they are not the correct ones, I'll be thrilled just to have badges on them! PM me and we can work out the details! Thanks!

basicblues, what were the caps you used in your A25's? I was thinking of going with Dayton's or Solens, but I'm always open to suggestions!

There's a guy who sells Dynaco labels that he's copied, and silkscreened, and has done a rel good job at making reproductions.

He markets them as originals, but they're not. They pop up on eBay on occasion.

I'll also check to see if I've got any extras.

I suspect that you and I are both going to be searching out some, as I'm thinking I'm missing mine too.

Now, if you need any ADS logos, I may have an extra...

Looks like we'll need to finf you some ADS speakers to go with 'em- that's all!

The small square "AR" badges are correct for the 4 series.

my 4 ax's have the small "ARinc" brass squares. well, one, anyway. two more are on the way via ebay. pricey, though.

birddog, worst-case scenario, we could pick up airbrush frisket, and two plates from a trophy shop. A deft hand with an X-acto, and some black paint, and the logos are done. I need to get to Pearl Art in Central Square to get some frisket anyhoo.

Luckily they were right were I thought they were. They are the square AR inc. badges, so it sounds like they are correct from above posts. I'll send you a PM to get your address and they will be on their way.

What grill cloth did you use for the dynaco's? If I ever want a real big project, I can go about trying to make mine look good!

I used the Dayton's and I am happy with the results.

I went to Jo-ann fabrics, and bought some white burlap fabric, @ 2.99 a yard. They had a couple of other colors that were closer in color to the originals (I think, hard to tell they were so dirty!) but I wanted the lighter shade. I'll post some pics when I can, Gotta get off my butt and get to Beemers house to pick up a camera! It was not that hard to do, although I used a hot melt glue gun, instead of the "tacky glue" I've seen in other threads. Gotta work quick, and watch out for your fingers!

Birddog,

This ebay seller occasionally sells both AR and Dyanco reproduction badges.

Search this seller [tgwillard]

I purchased a set of the Dyanco badges for my A-25's but if you check his completed auctions you can see a pair the reproduction AR's.
