New guidelines for systolic blood pressure being lowered down to under 120

Yeah, good point. The old ''there's lies, damned lies, and then there's statistics'' argument. Being Canadian,I can't comment on the veracity of statements made by official American health organizations. Do you feel they are being deliberately misleading? That they are misrepresenting the reality (or not) of chronic nationwide high blood pressure and obesity by omitting key metrics in their studies? Hmm,conspiracy?
IMHO.....Follow the money. Who makes more money by lowering the numbers, which in turn means more people need to be medicated.

Some years ago I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. Nothing major, just a bit high. The doc insisted I go on BP meds. I didn't like the side effects, so I decided to take garlic instead. I went back to the doc with a normal BP reading. She knew of my dislike of taking medication, so she was rubbing it in how the meds worked and I should take them. Imagine her disgust when I told her I wasn't taking them and had lowered it with garlic!

I take the smallest dose of bp meds, as my doctor really believes in low bp. I used to be in the 140-150/80-85 range, but after lifestyle changes including losing significant weight loss, increase exercise(mostly walking), and quitting drinking I'm now regularly in the mid-high 120's over low 70's. She's still deciding whether to ramp the dosage just a bit more to knock a few more points off.

Frankly, I see the whole med state of affairs as almost an expectation you're on something. In some cases, nay, many cases, meds are true lifesavers; no doubt/no qualm with that.

However, as an example, I went to the dentist the other day. Of course, it's been a while so I had to fill out all the forms again. On the form, and you've seen them, is the place to list the meds you're taking. I listed "none" because I am not on any meds. It must be quite rare because the paperwork lady and the dental assistant both eyed me with a look of incredulity and asked again about any meds I was taking. The answer is still the same...none.
