New Guy From California Here...with a (noob) question!

Hi all,

Been lurking for a few months and finally signed up. I am 27yrs old and just started to listen to and collect LPs. I have a very entry level set up right now, AT LP-120 TT into my KRK Rokkit 5 powered speaker.

I am curious how can I connect an additional powered speaker to my set up. What piece of equipment would I need to accomplish this?

And also, since these speakers have individual volume control, is there a way to "tie" them in together and use one "master" volume control, if you will?

I hope to give something back to this forum as I have gained so much in a short period. Thank you in advance for your help!!

According to the questions and answers section on Amazon, it has line out or magnetic out(switchable) so it can be connected to any stereo amplifier and speakers.

If you get a second identical speaker, you should be able to hook up your turntable to a passive stereo preamp that will split the signal and control the volume for you. This one here:

Has balanced outputs that will take advantage of your balanced (XLR) inputs. I don't know anything about your turntable, like if it has a phono built in or not, but if it does, you go straight into your passive preamp, or if not, the output from your phono preamp goes into the passive preamp. It should result in great sound from a pair of those near field monitors.

Thank you for the advice. Could please help me visualize the set up? Turntable goes into the passive preamp "IN" and the powered speakers into the "OUT" on the preamp? what cables should I be looking to purchasing? My turntable has built in preamp.
 
From what I was able to look up, your turntable has an internal phono preamp. So... you would go from your turntable using your RCA cables into the "aux" RCA connections on the passive preamp, then using XLR cables from the passive preamp into the XLR inputs on the speakers

Assuming of course, your speakers back panel looks like this:

My favorite powered speaker is Genelec. I don't use them for spinning vinyl, but it's a great idea if you have limited space and budget. Genelec speakers are ridiculously good sounding and built like tanks with two amps per speaker (each driver has it's own amp) that just sound great. I use them in an edit room, so they aren't mine, but if I were going to buy a pair of self powered speakers, those would be the ones for me.

Manny, you're awesome for the help. Yes, that is my exact speaker. Looking at the passive amp, one speaker would be the "OUTPUT 1" LEFT and the other speaker would be "OUTPUT 1" RIGHT?

I wouldn't use the "OUTPUT 2" with this set up described above?

I know I shouldn't be "sorry" for asking these questions but I am very thankful for the help.
 
We've all been noobs at one point or another. So yeah, no need to be "sorry" at all. Too bad you're not nearby because any excuse to go set up equipment and drink!

At any rate, it's exactly as you said. Output 2 seems to be in case you get another source.
 
Although, I'm really liking the Amazon one more now because it's half the price and if you don't like it you can ship it right back with no issues because Amazon.

AND unlike the other one, it's a true passive preamp with no power cord! I think I'm getting one of these myself!

Yeah I think I'm gonna go with the amazon one. Like you said if it doesn't work out amazon will take it right back.
