Hello from South Dakota! I've been lurking on this board for a while now, but finally decided to join. I appreciate all the interesting information available on here.

Welcome to AK from the guardians of you Eastern Border! Not being familiar with your particular Pioneer i can't offer any advice other than make a post in Vintage Solid State & probe the minds of the numerous experts there. Just off the top of my head I'd think the blackface version of a silver Pioneer would be well-worth keeping.

There's also a separate Pioneer brand forum that may well prove to be a good spot to describe you problem.

Hi John, thanks for the reply. Are you having fun with this weather too?

I'll check out the other threads you suggested. Once upon a time I was daring enough to repair it. Now I'm worried I'll make it worse than it already is, or somehow de-value the unit. I'd rather have someone work on it who knows what they're doing.
