New guy seeking input

Hello. I'm relatively new to this. This seemed as good a place as any to jump in based on what I have...which is a Harman Kardon 930. On top is a Phillips 312 for spinning my records. My speakers are something a neighbor gave me which he had custom made in the 80's. They're pretty large cabinets and powerful but not as clean as I'd like. I've been considering Klipsch Heresies or KG4s. Which do you guys think would pair better with the 930? Or perhaps someone has another recommendation. I'm trying to spend $500 or less on speakers. Was even thinking about just replacing the 8" woofers in the cabs I have. Thanks in advance.

The HK X30 series tends to be on the warm side. So you might want a speaker that is a little on the brighter side. Of course the cartridge will also be a factor.

KG4s have a lot of bang for the buck,I have had a set for years and still enjoy them, listened with a Marantz 2240.

Heresy all the way, should be able to grab a set of series 1 within your budget.

Some will say the Heresy is bass shy, but set up as designed, IE on the floor, against the front wall, not toed in they have ample bass but the soundstage will suffer. If setting up this way I suggest adding spikes to the bottoms, really helps to tighten up the bass.

If looking to get the most out of these, a pair of 12" subs like the Dayton Audio Sub 1200's from Parts Express used as speaker stands make them real giant killers. This combination gives 25hz capability and preserves the Heresy sound only BIGGER. The Sub 1200's are currently on sale for $139, hard to beat the price/performance ratio.

Personally I don't think the Heresy is all that bass shy, and the bass they have is very musical, so go ahead take the plunge and report back your findings.

As for other recommendations the AR58s still flies under the AR radar so can be had on the cheap, but dont let the low prices fool you, this is a serious AR speaker. Picked up this pair about 18months ago for $275, compare this to the going rate for AR11's etc.

I really like the furniture grade cabinets as well.
