New Guys Stereo

Cool....that is a serious turntable.
The Reference is indeed a serious table. It weighs around 800 lbs - note the massive weights that hang from the upper turntable section (above the control panel where you select speed and on/off).

What you can only appreciate in person is that the entire upper section gimbals in any direction like a ceiling fan. Nudging the upper structure gently moves the well balanced section. While belts drive the lower platter, it is decoupled from the main platter via magnetic drive.

That's an incredible system, man, would love to hear it.

btw, I have to assume, especially you being in Wisconsin, that your screen name refers to Polish jazz great Tomasz Stanko?

Thanks for your kind comments. No, my name just refers to my first and last name stuck together, not the Jazz great Tomasz Stanko.

Nice ARC gear as well, hope to own some ARC gear in the future, their big reference amps have always been on my want list.

My Stereo. Acoustat Monitor 4's with direct coupled high voltage tube amps (5000 volt output), Audio Research SP3A-1 I modified in 1977, Transcriptor turntable, Michell turntable, a couple of Crown 800 series decks, A Shanling CD player, a Jolida CD player, and a Marantz 10B tuner.

Very nice. Impressive acoustat display. Years ago, I remember falling in love with a Transcriptors table I saw in "A Clockwork Orange".

Wow !! Great system. Been a long time since I've heard Acoustats and I wanted them bad back in the day !! JR :music::music:

Beautiful setup. I love my spectra 33's with (the rarely turned on) spw-1 When I saw your pics, first thing I thought was "I bet he has run these in a quad setup before." I know I would anyway :) I can only imagine how these sound, bet they are incredible.

Did you get the Acoustat Model 4's from Audiophile Specialists? You have the same CD player that I have (Shanling), two Crown R-R. A CX800 series and an older Crown (Dream Tape Decks). I also see you have a Transcriptors turntable. Very uniequ and special table. A SP-3A preamp. A great deal of great products. Great products hold the value, and provide 40 years of enjoyment. Why pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for some of today's equipment, when you can purchase amazing quality and sound for a great deal less. Just knowing what the great products are out there. If you had a 8 foot ceiling, you could have purchased one of the few Acoustat 8 systems. I have had my Model 4's modified by one of the engineers that worked for Acoustat. Also the Spectra 1100 have been modified. Did I see a 66' Chevelle in the background picture? I had a 66 Chevelle 396, 375 hp red conv with white interior, and 4 sp. Owned it while in Oshkosh.

Love Tomasz Stanko. And the ECM recordings of his are just incredible.

Thanks for your comments. I bought the first pair from Audiophile Specialists, the guy running it is a friend of mine. The second pair I bought used. The car is a 1967 SS427, a special version of Impala without the Impala badges but with the special hood, Disc Brakes, 15" wheels, etc.
