New Headamp Available

There has been some discussion on this forum in recent weeks about step up transformers and headamps. I just noticed that Rothwell Audio is now offering a headamp. It appears to be very high quality and offers lots of options. Looks like a nice alternative to SUTs.

I have no affiliation with Rothwell Audio but am familiar with their other products and their quality is very high. I plan to order one and will report on its performance. If I was a bit more saavy I would attach a link...

Thanks for noticing the new headamp. I'm not sure how much interest there will be in it, but time will tell. Of course, I'm still a big fan of step-up transformers but there seem to be lots of people who want a certain amount of gain and a particular load impedance, but step-up transformers won't allow the two to be chosen independantly whereas a headamp will. The challenge with designing a headamp is to get low noise, but they have the advantage of not being prone to hum (if you get it right).
Since there are so many mc compatible phonostages around the concept of the headamp might seem obsolete, and that might explain why there are so few available (only two others that I'm aware of), so I'll just have to wait and see how much interest there is. So far the response has been good.

BTW, Hi-Fi Choice (a UK hi-fi magazine) already have a Headspace for review. I'll let people know what their findings are when it's published.
Also, one regular contributor to the AK forum has a Headspace and may share his thoughts on its performance with the rest of the forum when his tests are complete.
