Hi I just signed on here. I've been using information from AudioKarma for a little while to see what you guys thought about equipment. I've just started getting interested in vintage audio and just picked up a Sanyo JCX 2100K a Technics SA 500 and a couple Advent Legacy speakers. The Sanyo works fine, even the lights just with a little static turning the volume. The Technics the left channel has no sound so I'll have to figure that out. I forgot how good music sounds through this vintage stuff.

Welcome! It's a very nice group of folks here. I've learned a lot and tried to contribute too.

I have a Technics ST-7300 tuner from the era of your receiver. It looks great and still works fine, but unfortunately these days there's so little worth listening to on broadcast that it has been quite some time since I turned it on. But since I worked very hard in high school to save the money to buy it, I will cherish it forever.

I just made myself a pair of speaker cables from Cat 5 cable. You can find the "recipe" here. They sound quite amazing compared to the 4 strand, lower-end speaker wire I was using before. And they cost me very little as I was able to buy a partially used roll of Cat 5 cable from someone on Craigslist for $20. For that I got somewhere around 300 feet of cable, which was plenty. That, some work braiding, and some solder produced a very nice-sounding set of cables.

I was thinking of writing up my project here, but I didn't take any pictures during assembly, and now they're in place, so I'm a little reluctant to take them out again. Still, I'll have a second chance as I have some woven covering for them that's due to arrive tomorrow.

Anyway, welcome again!

Cheers,

Where quarantine has provided lots of time to overhaul amplifiers, build cables, and listen to a lot of great music.

Thanks everybody for the welcome. A pic of the Technics SA 500. Still have to get the left channel working and the lights, they're ordered.

Welcome, Jack, we're glad you're here.

And I had the little brother SA-400 of that Technics series. Clean, precise sound, no bloat. Very nice.

Nice scores Jack. I have a JCX2300 that I have done some work to. What part of the world are you located in and do you have an electronic background? First order would be to build a dim bulb tester and get a can of DeOxit to clean that volume control pot.

Thanks! I'm in Maryland and no I don't have an electronics background I've always been into cars / rods, that's kind of what started this. I'm building a garage with an upstairs that'll be a "man cave" and wanted to do vintage audio up there. It'll be an 18 x 35 room with an open beam gambrel roof. I've been using my old Realistic turntable that I had when I was a kid, still works great. Thanks for the info! I appreciate any help.
Tried to use quote on this but couldn't get it to work.
