New home, new listening room powered by 80’s McIntosh

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while since I’ve checked in here and a lot has changed since. My wife and I built a new home and moved out to the Pennsylvania countryside.

We’ve been in our new house for a little over a month now so I’m going to post some photos of my listening room. This is only the beginning, still things to unpack and organize so this will be a work in progress. Still more to do to make it more cozy but we’re off to a good start. I carved out a nice spot in our basement that’s been waterproofed and soundproofed with a dedicated line for my gear. There’s also a bedroom down here and a full bath. I’ll be putting in a bar eventually. Hope you like the photos.

Nice period matching McIntosh system, such as might have bought when new. Exactly what I like to see. :thumbsup:

We just moved to Oxford in Chester County. I’m a lifelong Delaware County guy so this was a big change but I’m really loving it here!

Very impressive, on all counts. You must be extremely pleased.
Those record racks look amazing, I’ve never seen or heard of those before. My vinyl collection is about half of that. I had to have a carpenter build me a wall shelving unit to accomplish what you have there. That’s a great solution. The one thing I did different to your situation was to also make that space my primary TV viewing space, with all TV related audio being heard through my hi-fi.
It really enhances the viewing experience.
 
I had a blended listening/viewing space for years, both were slight compromises. I finally moved the HT to its own room again and am very happy to be able to tune each space, from seating to equipment and everything else specifically for its intended use and will not go combination/blended again unless I move to a smaller home and don’t have a choice.

The original manufacturer of those shelves, Per Madsen, used to advertise this system in the back of Audio & Stereo Review back in the late 80’s & early 90’s and I used to read those mags religiously. He was a one man shop out of San Francisco. One day I called him and requested some literature. The prices were fair at the time and the system is well made. I gradually replaced all of my Napa Valley crates that I’d been buying since I was a teen. Per Madsen closed up shop in 2008 but there are at least two other vendors I know of that now offer the exact same system. Prices are far from what they used to be, but I still think it’s worth it for this kind of quality. Plus, it keeps the OCD in check!
