New Klipschorn owner

Thanks to Edroom and his annual audio yard sale I was able to purchase these beautiful giants yesterday. These are my first "big" set of speakers and they already sound fantastic even with the original capacitors in the crossovers. Even had the energy to stop at Home Depot on my way home for some pipe insulation to seal 'em to the walls.

The details:
1972 Klipschorn Model B's
"M75" Mahogany finish, NOT lacquered
AA crossovers

I absolutely, 100% recommend buying from Ed if you ever have the chance. Nice guy, fair prices, and an impressive collection.

Congratulations! There is a lot to love about a pair of Khorns. One of those being that though large, they are out of the way. One of the downsides is needing good corners to get their best, a factor your nice images seem to underscore. I certainly couldn't place them optimally in my home. Still impressive, though. My Fortes and MAs fit my room much better so I sold my dream speaker, but your room appears larger than mine, so you have that going for you. Hope you love them. Looks like a very fine pair.

Question though.... are they tucked into the corners? It's likely just a camera perspective...

I also wonder if your corners are deep enough? The Khorn uses (something like) four feet of wall to complete the final flair of the horn.

Still....as you are finding....they can be quite formidable.

I can't tell if your left speaker is in a true corner, you may want to lookthru Pauls white papers on the Klipsch section of this site and build you a false corner to get the best bass performance from the left channel. Its very important that your speakers are tightly sealed into the corners with no potential air leaks to secure the best performance from the woofers.

Let me add to the above comment "They must be sealed well." Now, I bought some Heresy's and they were OK.... nothing wild. I hear they lack bass anyways, so I made some changes. I put them right on the floor. I opened the back and ran a piece of rope chaulking around and re sealed it.... Wow! nice change up... So it is true, a tight box will produce a better bass. (on acoustic suspension styles)

Congrats! Ed is a great guy, and K-horns are special speakers. I love mine and don't plan to ever get rid of them. Not only do they sound great, they were a royal PIA to get them up stairs and into my listening room!

Once I had them hooked up I walked over to my listening spot and genuinely said "Holy ****." I almost got a pair of Altec Carmels that would have required a 14 hour (each way) road trip, but missing out on those allowed for this to happen. Go for it if you get a chance!

The right side is fully sealed. Unfortunately the left side only has a chunk of wall that will cover bout half of the opening. After that, the wall angles away at about 30º to go toward the window. So while it's not sealing the bass bin correctly, it also isn't dumping it around a full on corner, it's at least pushing it toward the listener. With that said, a false corner will be constructed if we end up resigning out lease in a month or two. (After getting these in, I REALLY hope that happens).
