New McIntosh Mc 462

Just sold my beloved McIntosh MC-452 that was paired with my McIntosh C-52 made a good deal for my new MC462 that should be here in two weeks. There seems to be very little discussions here on Audiogon and else-where on the net any thoughts on the new McIntosh Mc 462

Not a lot of talk here about it because it's so new I suppose. Looking forward to reading your impressions.
 
I read in another forum that some new MC462 owners were having issues with the amp not powering up. Those are the few negatives I have heard about.

What prompted you to replace your 452 with a 462?

There have been a couple of guys complaining about the 462 at Audio Aficionado, so I called my two Mac dealers and they haven't had any issues. That's all I know? I f I ever up grade my speakers the 462 will be at the top of a very short list followed by 1201's or 601's. 600 watt peaks should be more than enough. All who no me know the 1201 is my favorite SS amp. Whether I need 1 watt or a 1000. But where do I put two of them. A 462 sounds like a much better solution.
 
I would highly recommend a demo before purchase of the 462, 611 or 1.25KW just to make sure you love what you hear. This is all personal taste. The new gear is voiced a little different and specs will not tell the whole story. On paper, everything looks great. Guaranteed many love the new gear as well as some not so much. It's great that we have all these choices.

I'm finding this information very interesting, I wouldn't have thought two power-amps of this calibre from the same company could sound so different. But it seems this is actually the case....
After hearing the range of Mc amps I've had, and doing the shootout recently, I am beginning to think Mc do voice their amps somewhat.

Whether it’s intentional or not, amps do sound different to me. Pass Labs for instance, same basic design, more or less output devices but definitely each amp sounds different. Some sweeter, some ballsier, some more open and 3D and some a little less.

There’s no doubt the new McIntosh amps have amazing bass, grip, balls, openness and soundstage. If they could retain some or most of the sweetness and that all day listening greatness from the top (treble) of their more iconic amps like the 452/601, holy cow they’d corner the market. I predict the classic amps fetching a premium on the used market. Don’t dump the old gear just yet.
