Firstly, I'd like to say, thank you to AK, it's moderators and incredibly knowledgeable members.
I've been lurking on the forum for months now and one of the reasons that I have decided to get back into actively listening to vinyl is knowing that this forum exists as an invaluable resource. I've certainly gotten more than $25.00 of information so, after creating this account, subscribing was a no-brainer.
Having grown up devouring my mother's LP's from the 60's (think British Invasion, Psych, Surf, Early Garage), I remember the warm, comforting embrace of vinyl. And I missed it. Terribly.
Just yesterday, I finally took my first steps to getting this vintage feeling back. A local Bushwick seller posted an ad on Craigslist for a Thorens TD-147 Gold Jubilee Edition (pics below): new Thakker belt, Ortofon VMS 30 MKII cartridge w/new elliptical stylus and original Thorens tonearm and dustcover (some scratches but nothing major). I believe he is an AK member as well, but in order to maintain privacy, no names will be mentioned, at this time (the turntable is pretty unique and easily recognizable, especially with it's slightly raised, but fully functional cueing knob, so if he would like to comment, feel free).
Anyway, this seller/member was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and he gave me a lengthy demo. I think we made a fair deal, especially since this table is basically plug and play, which fits nicely into my plan to match this beauty up with a vintage receiver with a solid phono stage from the 70's.
