An old sound dawg learning new tricks
Hello, I'm a 64 y/o retired guy living in the coastal mountains of Oregon. I have some history with electronics in general and telecommunications/home audio in particular. However, much of my experience is rooted in the distant past, as I stopped collecting audio gear while my family grew and finances dictated other priorities.

My father was a hobbyist and built his home audio system from kits and crafted the cabinets to install them into. I inherited his love for electronics and audio gear and gadgets ...and built a Heathkit stereo amp with him at 10 years old. I earned a commercial radio operator license while in high school and hosted several weekday radio programs during my teens. I joined the Army and entered the Signal Corp upon graduation andI became an electronic technician specializing in communications equipment. I bought many fine pieces of Audiophile-level gear during that time.

I have not owned a quality stereo system since 1984. Fast forwarding to now -- and here I sit, having just purchased a project amp (Sansui AU-222) to tinker with and get my feet wet with home audio once again. I look forward to learning from y'all and I hope my questions aren't too naive. Cheers with beers!

Welcome! What is that in the background in your avatar? Can't remember the name but I think I saw a documentary on it a while back. Something to do with prolonging health or anti-aging?

It is The Man from the Burning Man festival in 2013, which spans a week and a half and ends on Labor Day. It is held in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. I've been to several of these annual events over the years.
