I am retired and 76 yo. My first work in electronics began in 1970 working for Raytheon. I repaired sonar, depth sounders, HF and VHF radios, and of course radar. I actually loved doing this work. I did it for 10 years and finally came to the place where I had children and wanted more home time and less time hanging from a helicopter to the deck of a submarine in the dark and in a storm. Well stormy weather anyway. I just felt too old for this s*** any more. I started studying digital and analogue design on the side. I finally went to work as designer. I did not care for this desk work. I did do it for 5 years. Then onto being a systems engineer at a medical school doing design work and coding all over the campus. Liked that work. Now being retired, I get to do my first love, electronics repair. I especially like making a good receiver good again. I love the music. The file is a picture of my workbench in the basement. You can see from the service monitor I work on transceivers. However, they are not as much fun as a stereo receiver. I am an amateur radio operator. I really feel blessed to have found this site.IMG_0367sm.jpg

Yes, I have cameras all over the place, even looking at our home from a distance. I use a digital recorder for them. I write my own code, so I have an extremely complex and tight security system. It monitors for smoke, motion, controls doors, when the mail arrives, uses ordinary voice to tell us what is going on without running to a touch panel. It tells us when the hot water heater is ready for another shower and the flow rate into our sewer line. It actually tells a lot more but I digress. It has become a hobby. I would do more, but my wife will not allow me to make it take voice commands. She is already paranoid about the voice, but she said it would just be too much to know it was listening to us. It is just a stupid computer and is air gapped from the internet. I have loudspeakers for this system in every room of the house and garage.
 
Welcome to AK Michael. You have some nice toys on your bench! I too am just getting back into electronics restoration and repair.
