Hello everyone! Alex here from California. I am new to this world of turntables, receivers, etc. Went down a rabbit hole on YouTube a few weeks ago, and I am glad I did. Very excited to learn more about this hobby.

Thank you all! I am slowly getting into the hobby, and I have the chance to purchase a Philips GA-312 for $90 or a Pioneer PL-514 for $120. Both are in good working condition according to the seller, but the Philips has a small crack on the dust cover. Which of the two do you guys think is a better buy for someone that is just starting off?
 
Yep. Got an sl 1300 on the bay that needed work. But with vinilengine resources, got it going, nicely. It just needed new rca cables and new caps. But lubed it and tuned it per service manual and thread discussions. About a hundred shipped. A project carbon with red ortofon stylus for 200 that needed the tracking weight or five bucks. The opportunity will come.

Well, I decided to hop on that Philips GA312 turntable for $80. I was able to knock off another $10. So far it seems to be working fine. It came with a Stanton cartridge L737E. On/off button is working properly as well as the touch control buttons. The RCA cables do look a bit flimsy. I removed the platter, and did not spot any build up or grease. Anything else I should look out for?
