New Mitsubishi LT-30 and a recent Yamaha PX-3

Trying to decide on setting up a Mitsubishi LT-30 with a Denon DL160 or picking up the Jico stylus for a yet untested Shure V15 type IV cart

Currently have an Ortofon OM 20 mounted on a shared yamaha headshell... so I'll need a new headshell for the Mitsubishi as well.

so there you go... 3 carts, two decks and one useable headshell

Hey thanks in advance all!

And thanks to many for turning me on to the DD Linear tracking tables ...

So all that you really need is a headshell and stylus, right? Why not just get those and make a call. At the worst you'll have a spare cartridge floating around that's sonically different than your other two, and with removable headshells, it's a very easy and quick switch. I like the ortofon sh-4 headshell I bought for my LT-20. I have no experience with any of those cartridges, however, my LT-20 is set up with an Audio Technica AT-150mlx, which seems to be an excellent matchup to my ears.

PS....love that LT-30. I'd love to pick one of those up, after owning the LT-20.

Zounds...I'm jealous!!! :D I've long wanted an LT-30 to compliment my PX-3 and PL-L1000.

I'd love to hear how the DL-160 works on the PX-3 (and the LT-30)

I agree with what Harvey said.

As an ex-user of both the PX-3 and the PX-2,I used to look at the photos of the LT-30 and wistfully ponder what it would sound like.Ihad heard that the Mitsu linear trackers were good sounding units which were reputedly as good as the PX-2(that's good.....).

Thanks JohnVF

I'll check out the Ortofon SH 4 headshell, sounds like a good performer for the Mitsubshi.

Once I get the headshell then I will mount the DL-160. I'll be able to AB the two Ortofon OM20 with the Denon DL-160.

Perhaps in a month or two I'll be able to purchase the Jico stylus for the Shure.

Thanks Harvey, Theophile and Thedelihaus

That's what I gathered about the LT-30 from comments that you guys had mentioned before.

I seem to have a penchant for tables with small problems. The LT-30 had been down in florida and was packed well enough, but the wire cable had jumped a small pulley and I had to rethread that back on, not a big deal. The dust cover shows a few scatches and a crack, but I'll live with it till I can find a replacement.

Take a look at this posting for the Mitsubishi LT-20/22 TT. There is information about the Ortofon and Sumiko headshells that will work with the LT-20/22 and LT-30 TTs.

I an currently using the Ortofon SH-4 HS on my LT-22. I think that the Sumiko SH-12 may be even better because:

  • [*]The HS is adjustable
[*]The cartridge wires are high quality
    [*]The HS fingerlift is removable

I'm currently listening 160 on my LT-30 throw a Audible Illusions pre to Bryston amp powering NS1000m. It's a great match, in such a clinical system I hear no tracking or tonal problems, although knowing that arm is short and relatively lightweight, it needs some other type of cart. But seems to me 160 sounds good on any TT. Like it a lot more than BluePoint. What other MCs You like on LT-30?

I used to have DL-160 on the LT-30. Sounded well enough to me; however, when I got a Dynavector Karat 17D2 MK2 LOMC I realized what is THE GREAT cartridge. The Denon went for straight up for sale.

Didn't have chances to compare other LOMC carts with the; the Sonus Gold currently in use is very good but no match to Dynavector.

BTW I used a light (7 grams or so) Technics headshell with the LT-30 without any problems.
