New Monkees Pretty Good

I just finished listening to the new cd, "Good Times", by The Monkees. It's actually pretty good. They wrote a few of the songs, but most are by outside writers, including Andy Partridge of XTC! The link is to that song, called "You Bring The Summer". Two of the songs were started in 1967 and feature Harry Nilsson and Davy Jones on vocals. For 10 bucks I figured what the hell, but I am very pleasantly surprised.

Yes, it is surprisingly good. There's not a standout hit, to my ears, but it's good sort of throwback pop.
 
That song would have been a smash hit in 1967--to bad it wasn't released back then.
 
Not bad; better than most new pop music IMHO.

Great idea for a video, too. Young people won´t know how old they really are, which is, sadly, important these days.

I have a question re the Monkees. Not trying to start any conspiracies. I am truly curious.

Mike Nesmith was never fully on board with any Monkees reunions. He dabbled a bit here and there, but did not seem as enthused as the others. That seems to have changed since Davey passed away. Were there issues between the two of them?

Yea.. That's Andy.. Sounds like it would fit in skylarking...

And to answer the Q about Pappa Nez and reunions.. By the time the 90's and reruns rolled around, I speculate he had toured and written all he wanted.

Who knows.. But no one can deny he had great talent.

I heard an interview with Mickey Dolenz a couple of weeks ago and I think Nesmith was "too busy" for touring but was happy to do the 50th anniversary thing. He pops up from time to time during Monkees concerts but doesn't really have to. I was reading into it that he doesn't need the money from touring like the others did, due to inheritances and his own business success.
 
As a young boy of the mid to late '60s watching the Monkees was cool! I wanted to play the drums like Mickey.

It never happened for me... :(

Yeah, Mickey made the drums extra cool for me too, though I wanted to play them even before that.
I always got to play Peter Tork though with our air band cause I kinda' looked like him, LOL

BTW, you know that Hendrix opened for them on one tour?
