New Needle for a Relative Newbie

Hey folks,

I have come here to confess, I've been without a needle for the past 2-3 months after some moving damage :(. I need help!

I had a Shure M95ED before, but I am a Millienial and have never bought myself a new needle, cartridge, etc.. The only one I had came with the TT I had purchased, and another one I have doesn't have a needle..

So I am here to ask what kind of needle should I be looking for? I know almost nothing in this area.

I have a Pioneer PL-510 and a Pioneer PL-55 (I think) TT.. I think I want to start using the PL-55 over the 510 because of it's built in "suspension" in the feet, plus a large wood plinth I have to deaden feedback..

I will be listening with a 1977 Marantz 2330, and for now, a pair of late 90's PSB Alpha A/V's and a PSB Subsonic IIi 12" sub.. Other speakers later may include Klipsch KG-4 and Pioneer S-1010 if I ever get my basement set up.. My listening space is not huge, and I like a well balanced sound.. I had previously found my phono set up to be a little harsh at high volumes, and lacking low end.. but that was with a different amp as well..

If I'm looking in the $100 - $150 range.. what would you all recommend?? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Furthermore... I think I only need a needle.. don't think I need to replace the cartridge.. but.. I honestly don't know.

LOL. Can add pictures... but yes... Turntables forum makes sense.. Is there a way for me to move this thread there, or do I need to do a cross/ re-post there instead?

try buying a new needle (aka stylus), and installing it. if you have someone who knows
a lot about this stuff then ask that person to analyze. if not, read Wikipedia and others
to gain insight/knowledge. cheapest way to getting your TT set-up is to buy a
turntable setup LP - it will run through tracking, phase, etc.

I would avoid replacing the cartridge until you understand the physics of the thing
or have someone do this for you.

do install your system first, listen to FM, CDs, etc. to get a feel for your system.
